Convocation

The Convocation tradition, introduced by Head of School Jake Dresden in 2002, brings students, faculty, administrators, and staff together on the first day of classes, and features remarks and reflections by members of the extended CA community including alumnae/i, teachers emeriti, and trustees.

Each year, the CA community gathers at Convocation to begin the new school year. In 2008, Convocation featured guest speakers Head of School Jake Dresden, Ellen Condliffe Lagemann '63, President of the Board of Trustees, Student Body President Jung Hee Hyun ’09, and Teacher Emeritus Bill Bailey.

    The entire Concord Academy community gathered September 2 for the seventh annual Convocation, marking the beginning of the new school year. Teacher Emeritus Bill Bailey, who taught at CA from 1967 to 2002, was the guest speaker. Other speakers included Jake Dresden, head of school; Ellen Condliffe Lagemann ’63, president of the board of trustees; and Jung Hee Hyun ’09, student body president.

    Concord Academy conferred the honor of teacher emerita/us on three teachers September 2, recognizing their long tenure at CA and their exceptional commitment to the intellectual and personal development of their students. Receiving the honor were three recently retired teachers: Madge Evans, who taught science from 1969 to 2007; Gary Hawley, who taught science from 1974 to 2007; and Stephen Teichgraeber, who taught English from 1974 to 2007.
