Academic Technology

Students at Concord Academy are voracious learners, and teachers here are constantly finding new ways enhance and diversify student-learning opportunities. We have a long history of using technology in our classrooms, and have used it to transform writing, research, investigation, photo and video manipulation, music performance and composition, and many other academic pursuits. Our teachers are not afraid to try new things, and encourage their students to do the same.

As technology plays an ever more prominent role in people's professional and personal lives, we aspire to prepare our students accordingly. Before they graduate they are required to gain fluency in critical computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, Internet research, web design, and multimedia presentation. Students who wish to continue on in Computer Studies can choose from two Java courses, two web design courses, a course called Narrative, Identity and Technology that has produced some of CA's most creative work, and many independent study options. Students are also exposed to cutting-edge technology in our music program, DV filmmaking courses, our language and science courses, and in many other departments.

The IT Services and Academic Technology staff maintain and support 100 networked computers for students and faculty in public labs and classrooms, in addition to an email account and a server folder. We also provide each faculty member with a laptop and frequent on and off-campus technology training opportunities for improving their skills and enhancing their curricula.

Technology is one of the major initiatives of CA's Strategic Plan.
